TYPES OF EYESHADOW
Eye shadow is the most important element of makeup. With their help, you can adjust the shape of the eyes, make them larger and more expressive. This requires proper application techniques and basic knowledge of product types and their textures. Find out how the different eyeshadows differ.
compact eye shadow
Compact shadows are the most common type of shadow. In its production, pigments are mixed with binders and pressed together. To date, the beauty market has a huge selection of compact shadows: different colors, textures, durability. Recently, large paddles have become fashion: They are convenient to take on a trip and experiment with makeup (read how to choose the right palette here).
Pencil shadows are a salvation for those who are just beginning to master this category of makeup products. They should be applied directly with a toothpick, densely staining the eyelids. As a general rule, pencil shadows are less pigmented than other types, so they can be spread without fear of going overboard with the intensity of the shadow. It is convenient to shade the color directly with your finger. Pencil shadows are especially good for those who fail at the smoky ice technique: a smoky effect can be created in two minutes by sweeping the pencil along the top and bottom edges of the lashes. And that's it!
Cream shadows are especially appreciated by fans of natural makeup, because they blend to the maximum with the texture of the skin. Unfortunately, these soft products, for the most part, are not very resistant and tend to quickly roll up in the creases of the eyelid. In this case, buy a good foundation - it will help keep makeup until evening.
Baked shadows are a mixture of mineral pigments, which are then baked in a special way. Then the moisture evaporates and all the minerals, pigments and shiny particles remain. In appearance, baked shadows are not much different from classic powder ones. The difference is visible in the app. They can be applied dry and wet. In the first case, they are slightly shiny, in the second, the effect of foil on the eyelids is obtained.
mineral eye shadow
Mineral shadows are obtained in the following way: minerals such as iron oxides, talc, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are micronized or ground into minute particles. Mineral shadows gained their popularity in the 1970s in America, when naturalness was all the rage.
Today, the demand for mineral cosmetics does not decrease. Its difference is that it does not contain a series of ingredients: emollient oils and waxes, fragrances and preservatives that are found in conventional formulas.
Mineral shadows are always released only in crumbly form. Its intensity may be different, depending on the brand-manufacturer.
loose eye shadow
Loose eyeshadows are similar to classic pressed eyeshadows, except they don't mix pigments with any binders. Because they have a loose and powdery texture. Loose shadows are sold in miniature jars. These tools are especially appreciated by professional makeup artists. After all, with its help you can achieve any color intensity. It is recommended to apply them with a brush
Liquid shadows are newcomers to the beauty market. This formula has not been around for a long time, but it is already loved by many. Outwardly, they resemble a lip gloss - a similar packaging tube and applicator for application. They often contain shimmering microparticles, which create a beautiful shimmering effect on the eyelids. In matters of application, liquid shadows are among the simplest: they do not crumble, they blend easily.
PEARLY OR BRILLIANT SHADOWS
Many today mistakenly consider mother-of-pearl shadows to be outdated, recalling the fashion for them in the 1990s. However, modern formulas are an entirely different story: they no longer shimmer like foil, and the choice of shades becomes has become much broader.
Pearlescent shadows are a great choice for makeup beginners as they are easy to blend and blend easily with any other texture.
Bright shadows are distinguished by the presence of small sparkles. Your base can be anything from shimmery to matte. Both types of shadows, due to their luminosity, look more appropriate at night under artificial lighting.
Among all types of shadows, matte shadows look the most natural (when using nude shades) - they do not contain glitter particles, so they look like powder on the eyelids. But they are also the most difficult to apply: their dry formula is reluctant to blend.
What are the best matte shadows?
- When choosing matte shadows, be sure to write them on your fingertips and blend them on the back of your hand. The best will be those whose texture is more suitable for the description of “silky” - such shadows will blend well and look natural.
- Unnecessarily dry shadows, reminiscent of the consistency of chalk, should be set aside.
- Today, all beauty brands produce matte eyeshadow palettes that include four shades or more. Color combinations for them are selected by professional makeup artists, which means that each shade can be used separately and mixed with each other.
Makeup with matte shadows
Matte shadows in soft earth tones or pastels are ideal for day makeup: they look natural and understated. When creating an evening make-up, pay attention to dark or saturated colors - with these, the smoky ice effect looks especially good.
Sequins are an indisputable trend of recent seasons. For those who don't risk immediately applying glitter to their lids, as runway makeup artists did at the shows, there's a safer option: glitter shadows.
An important point: the sequins should be medium in size, not too small, otherwise there is a risk that it will look like a mother-of-pearl effect, but not too large.
Bright shadows can be relevant during the day and at night. One condition: in day makeup, glitter should be the only accent on the face. Take an example from the models: a clean face, as if it were not painted, and shine on the eyelids; with that makeup they look fresh and unassuming
